Wellness Cat food is a type of cat food that is manufactured by the company “Old Mother Hubbard”. Old Mother Hubbard’s production facility is located in Lowell, Massachusetts. Although this facility has been operational since 1961, the Old Mother Hubbard company was actually founded in 1926, and was located at that time in Gloucester, Massachusetts. In 1926, the company was called “A. Hubbard and Sons Bakery”, and was primarily known for manufacturing hard-tack sea biscuits. However, at the founding of the company in 1926, “A. Hubbard and Sons Bakery” also began producing dog biscuits, once they discovered that their biscuits were also appealing to dogs. The company was purchased in 1961 by an animal nutrition specialist, and eventually migrated to its current location in Lowell, Massachusetts.

In addition to producing Wellness Cat Food, Old Mother Hubbard also produces Wellness Dog Food, Neura Meats and Old Mother Hubbard Treats. The Old Mother Hubbard company produces their Wellness brand cat food without the additive of ingredients such as artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, meat by-products or fillers. In addition to their regular Wellness Cat Food formulas (which include Chicken, Salmon, Healthy Weight, Indoor Health and Kitten Health), there is also the Wellness CORE formula. This formula was developed to be grain-free, and is primarily protein based.

Another aspect of Wellness brand Cat Food is that the Old Mother Hubbard company chooses to advertise their formulas as being free from meats that were treated with steroids or hormones. This is a topic that has been subject to much debate by cat food experts, as some experts suggest that adding meat to pet food from animals that have been treated with steroids or hormones may negatively affect the health of any pets that consume the food formula.

My cats have been eating Wellness CORE for years. Micky and Maggie came to me from the USA, but the others were born here in my home and have eaten CORE since they started on hard food. I highly recommend this product – my cats’ skin and coats are gloriously healthy and they are vibrant with energy from being fed a high quality holistic cat food.
